ARTIST BIO
Andrés García Martínez begins his dance education at the Dance Conservatory of his hometown, Zaragoza, mostly based in classical ballet. But his curiosity for new ways of approaching dance brings him to the University for Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt am Main, where he dances works of William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián and Hofesh Shecter, among others, besides creating new pieces with Sjoerd Vreugdenhil, Georg Reischl and Ted Stoffers.
He was member of Folkwang Tanzstudio, where he works with David Hernandez and Emanuel Gat, besides participating as guest for “Le Sacre du Printemps” with Wuppertaler Tanztheater Pina Bausch. For four years, he was intensively engaged in the work of Emio Greco|Pieter C.Scholten at Ballet National de Marseille, as well as their practice “Double Skin Double Mind”; besides meeting other choreographers as Nacera Belaza, Amos Ben-Tal and Éric Minh Cuong Castaing.
As freelance dancer, his current status, he collaborates with Regina van Berkel, Cocoon Dance (Rafaële Giovanola), Marcos Marco, BabelDanse (Samir Elyamni), UnterwegsTheater (Jai Gonzales), Yuval Pick (CCNR) and Hiya Compagnie (Dalila Belaza).
His deep interest in the creation process moves him to keep on searching approaches to use the imagination and presence of the body, always in relation to others. That is the reason of his fascination on giving improvisation and composition classes, to share his experiences with all kinds of people and bodies in Spain, France, Germany and Japan. He also broadens his knowledge with a Master of Culture Management.
As a creator, he is interested in an artistic approach that revolves around dance as a process of inhabiting the body in order to create a space for sharing, where a creative act reveals the links and intentions that move us. He is looking for devices that put the body and its movement at the center of a sensory experience in particular contexts. A work that is associated with the public and the place of representation, immersive and contemplative, with a multidisciplinary approach and the generation of spontaneous situations.
In 2022 he becomes a new associated artist at Théâtre des Calanques (Marseille), where he explores his singular voice and a theatrical body language as well as in exchange with the visual imaginaire of its director, Serge Noyelle.
